New Jersey's bus Network is simply awful

Nightishcross's picture

My name is Carl Schmidth. I am pretty renowned researcher of Urban Transportation system and I teach Urban Planning and Transportation at the City University of New York. Lately I haven't been doing a study on The New Jersey transit bus network and I must say that I am thoroughly disappointed. Many of the bus routes are redundant(other bus routes cover virtually the same locations) and much of the state is unserviced, hell there are even colleges and Hospitals that aren't within reasonable walking distance of any bus stops. This is simply acceptable.

So true

Hey this is Transportation Guru: My previous account got tagged for making too many harsh comments. Mods if you're seeing this I'm sorry, and you don't have to repost my previous comment, I just did and I'll be nicer from now on. I promise :)

I live in Pennsylvania so I can fully appreciate how silly the New Jersey bus network. The other day I wanted to go to a local Best Buy store, which is only 20 minutes in walking distance from where I live(I didn't know this) and I had to take transfers and all together 4 bus trips to get there, and in all it could over 2 and half hours. This is ridiculous. Whoever designed these bus routes needs to black listed, so he never works in the transportation industry again.

@hardworker: To answer your question the bus route in Pennsylvania is wonderful. I have traveled across the state numerous times and not once did I ever have to take more than one bus transfer. From what I understand New Jersey's bus network is one of the worst in the North Eastern corner of the United States.

I am in total agreement

I just deleted my previous post and reposted this one.

Word

I am very happy someone made a thread about this. NJ's transit network is simply laughable. I work in Eastern Burlington county and we get no Bus service, I just found out the other day that there is over 800 square miles in that county which is simply receives no bus service. Words cannot express how furious this makes me. I am a hard worker, who pays taxes, and has 3 children to feed. Is a functional bus route too much to ask?

@Transportation Guru: Is this bus route in Pennsylvania very good?
